Postdoc position Numerical Astrophysics


At the mathematics dept. of the University of Würzburg (Prof. Christian Klingenberg) jointly with the astrophysics dept. of the Heidelberg Institute of Theoretical Studies at Heidelberg University (Prof. Volker Springel) starting Jan. 2013 there is an opening for a 3 year post doctoral position in the area of NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF IDEAL MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMICS ON AN UNSTRUCTURED MOVING MESH APPLIED TO ASTROPHYSICS. The goal is to develop efficient solvers for the AREPO code developed by Volker Springel.

The applicant should have a PhD in applied mathematics or a related field.

PhD Position


A 3 year PhD position is available from Jan. 2013 on at the Dept. of Mathematics of Würzburg University in the field of nonlinear partial differential equations. A Diplom or Masters in applied mathematics is required. The topic is either in the area of elliptic PDEs, finite elements (Prof. Manfred Dobrowolski) or hyperbolic PDEs, homogenization, finite volume methods, astrophysical applications (Prof. Christian Klingenberg).


The PhD position may also be related to the subject of the Postdoc position advertised above. The salary will be according to the pay scale of a public employee E 13, 2 half.
