Exam Organisation

Examinations in mathematics should be successful even under the current restrictions. The JMU's safety concept (cf JMU web page Studium / Prüfungsangelegenheiten / Formulare section "Sicherheitskonzept und Selbstauskunft Covid-19 Prüfungen", page is available in German only but contains links to an English version of the safty concept) is supplemented as follows for written exams and individual oral examinations in modules for which mathematics is responsible.

Please read the following points carefully before your exam to ensure that your exam runs smoothly. In this way, you will avoid any disadvantages for yourself which could impair your success in your studies.

Written exams

Please bring the following with you to the examination or prepare it in advance in good time.

  • Mouth and nose protector (FFP2)
  • Writing material (pen and paper, each sheet of paper inscribed with your first and last name and your matriculation number in the top right-hand corner). It is not allowed to use as writing material: Pencils, pencils with red ink.
  • JMU student identity card and photo ID
  • Control printout for your online exam registration in WueStudy
  • Install the UniNow app on your mobile and prepare it for a check in in rooms at the JMU (for details see JMU homepage Corona/forms). If this is not possible: Self-disclosure form Covid-19 Protection against infection (available on the webpages of the Examination office in section Formulare) completed and signed on the day of the examination.
  • Clothing that takes into account that the examination rooms are ventilated.
  • The aids permitted for your examination in this semester, if the examiner has named them.
  • If you belong to one of the risk groups for a severe course of Covid-19, please take the necessary measures for your own protection. This may include wearing respiratory protection with the level of protection you require. The JMU  doctor can advise you on this in advance if necessary.

Your examiner will give you notice at an early stage (at least three weeks before) of the date of the exam and indicate a period during which the exam will be held. At least two working days before the exam, you will receive detailed information about the exam location (building and entrance) and your time for registration for the exam. We will use your stud-mail address for this purpose. So please read your inbox regularly.

Pay attention to the times given to you. We conduct larger exams in several rooms with a slight time delay to avoid queues on arrival, registration and after the exam. Different exam participants may therefore have different registration times. You must therefore know and observe your personal registration time.

The following buildings and entrances are used. General site plans can be found on the websites of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

  • You wear a mouth and nose protector (FFP2) on the grounds of the university (at the Posthallen in the area marked on the map) around the entrance and in the building where the test takes place.
  • During your entire stay on the premises, keep a minimum distance of 1.5 m from other people. No queues or groups of ten or more people may formed.
  • You observe the cough and sneeze etiquette.
  • You avoid unnecessary discussions.
  • You follow the instructions of the examiners. They can be recognized by the warning vests.
  • You keep the times given to you exactly. In case of delays, the regulations for latecomers apply.
  • You only enter the grounds early enough to be at the building entrance in time for registration.
  • You will leave the grounds quickly after the end of the exam.

  • Important: You must independently ensure that you arrive at the building entrance at the time of registration you have been notified (see below for maps). If you miss the registration time you were notified, the time for latecomers will apply. You will then have to accept a possible reduction of the examination time. So please avoid delays. But do not come too early either.
  • Please follow the directions for registration at the building entrance.
  • Once you arrive at the registration desk, you place your JMU student ID, your photo ID and the control printout of your online exam registration in WueStudy on the desk, step back and wait until the exam supervisor asks you to pick up your JMU student ID, your photo ID and the control printout of your exam registration again. You may be asked at registration to temporarily remove your mouth-and-nose protection to verify your identity. In case you will not use the UniNow app to check in for the room in which your exam takes place you have to place your completed and signed Covid-19 Infection Protection self-disclosure form, too.
  • You will then receive an exam cover sheet indicating the room and seat number for your exam. You will then walk immediately along the marked path to your seat for the exam. For exams in the Post Halls, follow the instructions given at registration for the allocation of your seat.
  • Before entering the room where your exam takes place check in with the UniNow app.
  • Make sure that you have found the right place. Once there, prepare your material for the exam. Bags and rucksacks that you bring with you must be kept at a distance from the examination documents. Leave the examination folder lying in your place closed. Failure to do so will be considered an attempt to cheat.
  • If you have notified the examiner in due time your claim for compensation for disadvantages, this will be taken into account.
  • Further information and map for exams in the Posthallen on the website of the examination office (Abschnitt "Prüfungsräume und Wegbeschreibungen / Posthalle).

  • Their processing time begins with the announcement of the exam supervisor. Only then do open your exam folder.
  • You have to wear your mouth and nose protector during the processing time, too.
  • You process each exam problem on a separate sheet, if necessary on several sheets. You label each sheet with the problem number at the top left and your first name, surname and matriculation number at the top right. Do not use a pencil or pens with red ink for writing.
  • If you have a question during the exam, inform the exam supervisor by a hand signal.
  • If you want to leave your place for a visit to the toilet during the exam, you have to inform the exam supervisor by a hand signal. Before leaving your seat, you place your work and the exam information in the exam folder and close it. You will be accompanied to the toilet. Since the number of simultaneous toilet visits is limited, there may be waiting times. You wear your mouth and nose protection during the entire toilet visit.

  • If you want to hand in your exams before the end of the exam or if you do not want to hand in anything, please put the exam information and your paper in the exam folder, close it and pack your things. Afterwards you report to the exam supervisor by a hand signal. They will tell you when and how you can leave the exam room. You leave the building immediately and on the marked paths. The exam supervisor may specify a blocking period after which early turn-in is no longer possible. In this case you must wait at your seat until the end of the exam.
  • When the exam supervisor announces the end of the exam, you immediately put away your writing utensils, put the exam details and your work in the exam folder, close it and pack your things. However, you remain in your seat and wait for the instructions of the exam supervisor. We have to consider any writing after the end of the examination as an attempt to cheat.
  • The examiner will tell you and the other examiners in the room in which order and which way you leave the room. This means that you cannot get up and leave on your own. Once you left the room check out with your UniNow app.
  • You leave the building as told on the marked paths.

The inspection of the written exam is carried out in the manner announced by the examiner. If it takes place on site, we will announce the date and time of the inspection in good time and inform you in which building the inspection takes place and which entrance is to be used. Make sure that (similar to the exam) groups are formed which are assigned specific time slots for the inspection. Again: If you do not keep to the time you have been given, you will have to accept disadvantages.

The regulations mentioned for the execution of the examination apply analogously to the procedure of inspection. You have to wear your mouth and nose protection during the entire inspection.

For the following reasons (also mentioned in the security concept of the JMU or in the ASPO/LASPO) you cannot participate in the exam.

  • You have entered the State of Bavaria from a country outside the Federal Republic of Germany which is still under quarantine obligation (see daily updates at www.stmgp.bayern.de/coronavirus/massnahmen/#CTT under the heading "Reducing the risk of infection through quarantine measures for those entering Bavaria") within the last 14 days before the exam and cannot present a negative SARS-CoV-2 test.
