We owe the Otto Volk Foundation not only to its founder, Prof. Dr. Otto Volk, but above all to Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Vollrath. He spent the last decades of his life looking after Otto Volk in both professional and private matters and developed the idea of a foundation for the Institute of Mathematics together with Prof. Volk. Out of great gratitude, the Board of Trustees of the Otto Volk Foundation awards him the Otto Volk Medal in Gold.
