The autumn conference of the working group ‘Psychology and Mathematics Education’ will take place on 17–18 October 2025 at Julius Maximilian University on the Hubland Nord campus in Würzburg.

The Psychology and Mathematics Education Working Group of the Society for Mathematics Education (GDM) is composed of scientists and other interested parties from all over Germany. Its main activity is the annual autumn conference, which provides a forum for discussing current topics and ongoing research projects.

The conference is organised by the spokespersons:  Ms. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Silke Neuhaus-Eckhardt (JMU Würzburg) and Ms. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Janina Krawitz (University of Cologne).

Objectives and focus

The Working Group on Psychology and Mathematics Education was founded as a national group based on the international model of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (IG PME). It shares the goals of the IG PME. It was established around 1980 (and certainly before 1986). It is characterised by its strong interdisciplinary orientation and appeals to researchers in mathematics education with a clear focus – in theory and methods – on the related science of psychology. It is open to participants from all working groups and locations.
