Oberseminar Mathematische Strömungsmechanik

A kinetic description for evolving gases is given by the Boltzmann equations. This equation is very complicated, so in practice a simplifications of the collision operator, namely the so called BGK model, is considered. For an adequate description of a plasma, where treating the different ions is important, one is lead to multispecies kinetic models. A new model of this type arising in inertial confinement fusion is introduced. Important theoretical properties are proven which opens the way to solving these equations numerically.
