Giovanni Prodi Visiting Professor Winter Term 2013/2014

* Filippo Bracci (Dipartimento di Matematica, Università di Roma "Tor Vergata") is a leading complex analyst with an emphasis on Geometric Function Theory, Several Variables, Complex Geometry and Loewner Theory. His research is characterized by deep and often elegant and surprising connections between geometric and analytic problems and techniques.

Filippo Bracci received is PhD in 2001 at the Università degli Studi di Padova. After spenting some time at Purdue University (USA), he joined the faculty at Università di Roma "Tor Vergata", where he is now Full Professor in Geometry, a position which he holds since 2007. He maintains intense international scientifc cooperations. For instance, he was a visiting professor at the University of Seville (Spain) and held a visiting position at Mittag-Leffler (Stockholm, Schweden) in 2011.

Professor Bracci has been awarded numerous research grants and he is currently principal investigator of a prestigious ERC grant on Holomorphic Evolution Equations. He has coauthored more than 50 research papers in outstanding journals such as Annals of Mathematics.

During the winter term 2013/14, Professor Bracci will give a course on Complex Analysis ("Funktionentheorie") as well as a seminar on Geometric Function Theory. These classes will be taught in English, but the accompanying exercise course Übungen zur Funktionentheorie will be taught by Sebastian Schleißinger in German. The classes and exercises on Funktionentheorie can be used as Modul Funktionentheorie (M=AFTH) (Aufbaubereich) resp. as Modul Giovanni-Prodi Lecture Selected Topics (M=VGPC) (Vertiefungsbereich) (10 ECTS each). Necessary prerequisites for attending the lectures on Funktionentheorie are the basic bachelor courses in analysis and complex analysis, in particular the course Einführung in die Funktionentheorie.
