On the axiomatic strength of the uncountability of the reals

If we represent real numbers by arbitrary Cauchy sequences rather than decimal expansions, Cantor's diagonal argument is not straightforward. We investigate which axioms are needed to prove the uncountability of the reals for that representation. This combines ideas from set theory (forcing) and proof theory (metastability).
The talk is based on joint work with Nicholas Pischke and Patrick Uftring.
