Number theory is a traditional mathematical discipline that deals with the most diverse properties of numbers; in the universe of integers, for example, people are particularly interested in divisibility, prime factor decomposition and prime number distribution. Many problems of number theory are easy to understand, but difficult to solve. Number theorists often use methods from other fields such as algebra, geometry, and analysis for their work. Due to its concrete problems, number theory has also advanced important developments in these fields, but also has important applications in cryptography and coding theory.
