How to get to Würzburg
Würzburg is well connected to the German railway network via Deutsche Bahn’s Intercity Express (ICE) system. Trains from all directions arrive several times per hour. For journey planning and ticketing, please visit Deutsche Bahn’s website.
For participants exclusively ("Tagungsticket"): Travel comfortable, sustainable and affordable throughout Germany by train:
Würzburg is easily accessible by car, as it is connected to several major motorways:
- A3: From Frankfurt to Munich (northwest–southeast)
- A7: From Hannover/Kassel to Ulm (north–south)
- A81: From Stuttgart to Würzburg
You won’t need a car while staying in Würzburg, as the city is compact and well served by public transport. However, if you plan to explore rural areas of Germany afterward, car rental is available - several major rental companies have offices in Würzburg.
We strongly recommend flying into Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), as it is the most convenient major airport for reaching Würzburg. From the airport, you can continue your journey by train. There is a train station directly integrated into the airport (Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf).
Direct trains to Würzburg depart frequently (usually every hour) and do not require a transfer. Travel time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. For journey planning and ticketing, please visit Deutsche Bahn’s website.
Allow at least 60 minutes from landing to train departure to account for passport control, baggage, and navigating the terminal.
The route through the airport involves multiple level changes (stairs/escalators/elevators), so follow the signage carefully.
