Our degree programmes - your future!

Do you enjoy puzzles and tricky problems? Do you want to use maths not only as a tool, but also to understand and develop it? Then studying maths in Würzburg is just the thing for you! After a thorough introduction to the basics of modern mathematics, many different areas are open to you - from function theory or algebra, to mathematics in the natural sciences and optimisation, to logic or geometry. In the lectures, you will not only learn about the theories of modern mathematics, but above all train in modelling and solving problems.

Are you interested in data and machine learning and want to understand the mathematical basics at the same time? Then Mathematical Data Science is just right for you! After the introductory courses in analysis and linear algebra (as with all our mathematics degree programmes), you will deepen your knowledge in advanced mathematics modules as well as in data science and artificial intelligence, especially machine learning. An industrial internship and two labs will give you valuable insights into career prospects after graduation and allow you to apply your acquired knowledge directly in practice.

Are you interested in maths and physics? You can't really decide which of the two subjects you should study? Then why not study both on the Mathematical Physics degree programme in Würzburg! At the beginning of your studies, you will acquire the necessary mathematical basics - no superficial "recipes", but well-founded mathematics lectures. At the same time, in addition to some experimental physics and an internship, you will familiarise yourself with the most important areas of theoretical physics. Further accompanying maths courses will help you to develop a deeper understanding of the complex mathematical models of theoretical physics.

You don't just want to discuss economic problems, you want to understand them analytically, model them mathematically and solve them algorithmically? Then the Bachelor's degree programme in Business Mathematics in Würzburg is just right for you. In the lectures on analysis, linear algebra, stochastics, optimisation and numerics, you will learn to use mathematics as a tool and come into contact with data and algorithms at an early stage. Courses such as Micro- & Macroeconomics, Finance and Risk Management will teach you how economics really works, while a compulsory internship, project work and excursions to banks, insurance companies or IT consultancies will keep you in touch with the real world.

Maths is your passion. Therefore, your degree programme will (have to) be similar to a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. For example, linear algebra and analysis are studied in two semesters. With this foundation, you will then be able to master algebra and differential equations, as well as geochemistry and stochastics. Unlike at most other universities, there are special courses for teacher training students at key points in the degree programme with content tailored precisely to their professional goals.

You study maths, but of course less in-depth than in the grammar school teaching degree, in line with your career goal. Therefore, linear algebra and analysis, for example, are only one-semester courses. Nevertheless, you can still enjoy maths in the areas of elementary number theory, elementary geometry, elementary stochastics, analytical geometry and the basics of differential equations. There are several practical phases in the degree programme where you can try your hand at school. You will of course be given tips on optimisation.

Do you enjoy working with people and want to convey the beauty of maths? Then a degree programme with a practical focus is just right for you. Work with children during your studies, e.g. in the maths laboratory

You will experience memorable moments of success on the primary school degree programme with mathematics as a major subject. In addition to similar subject content as in the secondary school degree programme, there are more courses on teaching and learning mathematics - ideally tailored to the needs of primary school pupils. Practical seminars, such as working in the"Maths Workshop", are also offered.
