Internships

A six-week internship at a company or another organization with an economic-mathematical background should provide the necessary practical skills during the course of study.

The purpose of the internship is to build an interconnection between relevant mathematical problems and the practical implementation of the knowledge acquired during the study programme.

The internship also includes the subsequent presentation (about 20 minutes) of the internship report (about 15 pages). Before starting an internship, students must obtain an agreement with a lecturer in mathematics, computer science or economics to supervise this internship.

The compulsory module "External Internship Economathematics", which provides 10 (PO2012) or 8 (PO2015) ECTS points, is considered a "subject-specific key qualification" and is ungraded.

The exact procedure (registration, specifications for the report, etc.) is individually regulated by the supervisor. As a general rule, you must take the initiative to obtain a commitment of supervision in good time before the start of the internship.

Ideally, copies of the employment contract and possibly the certificate of employment should be attached to the internship report for documentation purposes (after individual consultation with the supervising lecturer).

Regarding the application, the following rules apply: prior to the beginning of the internship: no explicit registration with the examination office is required (although the mentioned informal supervision commitment of a lecturer must exist). Once all the above services have been provided, the supervising lecturer will immediately inform the examination office Wirtschaftsmathematik in an informal manner. The documentation of the internship takes place solely through the respective lecturer.

A six-week internship at a company or another organization related to mathematical data science should provide the necessary practical skills during the course of study.

The mandatory module "External Internship Mathematical Data Science" with 7 ECTS points is considered as "subject-specific transferable skills" and is ungraded.

You complete an extra-curricular internship in business, research, industry or administration and implement your acquired mathematical expertise in a specific applied situation.

Before starting, you should look for a lecturer at the Institute of Mathematics who is willing to supervise the internship. His or her agreement has to be obtained before the start of the internship.

Ideally, copies of the employment contract and possibly the certificate of employment should be attached to the internship report for documentation purposes (after individual consultation with the supervising lecturer).

Regarding the application, the following rules apply: prior to the beginning of the internship, an exam registration in WueStudy is required. Additionally, the mentioned informal supervision agreement of a lecturer must already exist and the form for registration has to be filled out and given to the supervising lecturer (see forms).  Once all the above-mentioned services have been provided, the supervising lecturer will  inform the Examinations Office Mathematics. The documentation of the internship takes place solely through the respective lecturer.

Depending on the type of teacher training, various internships are compulsory before and during the course of study:

Another tip: if you would like to actively and extensively teach already during your studies, then find out more about the project  Lehr:werkstatt. A credit transfer as a study-accompanying internship is possible.
