The Chair of Applied Analysis dealt with the theory and numerics of partial differential equations. These are used as mathematical models in all natural and engineering sciences (e.g., weather forecasting, automotive  engineering, pricing of options in finance mathematics and much  more). Specific projects are often based on users, with whom a mathematical model is developed. By means of numerical methods, simulations for the problem to be  investigated can then be carried out.
